Are you looking for new pickleball shoes or getting your first-ever pair? You've come to the right place—I've personally tested a ton of shoes and picked the seven best.

Wearing the right court shoes is critical. They can protect you from injuries, allow you to play with confidence, and win more games.

When choosing the best pickleball shoes in 2024, I factor in durability, comfort, stability, and speed. Value is also hugely important and something I factor into each product.

Diadem Court Bursts are the most comfortable pickleball shoes I've ever tried, and that's straight out of the box with no real break-in period. They're breathable and fast, blending a light weight with strong support. They're my new #1 pickleball shoe because they score 9/10 or higher across comfort, speed, and stability.

Who it suits

If you're like me and comfort is your top priority, you'll love these shoes. I've been recommending them to regulars at my local court. One player in particular (hi, Dean!) now wears them and says they're the best pickleball shoes he's ever had.
If you want to play a fast game and not worry about rolling your ankle or picking up strains, these are worth trying. They're quick yet supportive.
I did experience some slight issues with the laces and mesh, so durability-wise, they're not on the same level as the 9.5/10 Babolat Jet Mach 3s. That said, this could be down to the way I play so you might not have the same issue with the Diadem shoes.
Watch my first thoughts on the Diadem Court Bursts:

Loading...

Features

Diadem is known for its innovative paddles like the Diadem Edge 18k. As this is their first time creating a shoe, I have to admit I was skeptical. They clearly invested a lot of R&D, though, because these shoes won me over straight away.
The breathable upper has a lightweight, stretchable design. The toe guard is strong but drag-resistant. The midsole is designed to prevent your ankle from rolling and for arch support, while the heel is EVA foam-cushioned.

Design and feel

I love the look of these. They're sleek and modern and the Diadem logo marks them out as different from the usual brands.
These feel great in play. I'd give them 11/10 for comfort if I could. They're breathable, light, and supportive. Amazingly, there's little to no break-in period as they seem to mold to your feet right from day one. That's a big factor in why they're so comfortable.

Performance

You can move fast in these shoes without feeling any drag. They have plenty of protection, though. The solid structure provides padding in all the right places, supporting the quick lateral and front/back movements you need to play high-level pickleball.
I really appreciate the breathability—especially in the upper half of the shoe as I play in the hot Phoenix sun a lot. The only drawback for me is durability. One of my laces frayed and had to be replaced and the top mesh part is showing wear from sliding on the court.
I have to admit, I've put them through a lot—easily more than 100 hours of very competitive play. The good news is the soles have held up well, with no noticeable wear.

Value for money

While I'd rate the Babolat Jet Mach 3s and K-Swiss Express Light higher than these on durability, I still think the Diadem Court Bursts are worth $149.95. The performance and comfort more than make up for what they lack in durability. These are the best court shoes you can find.
star icon
My verdict
If comfort is your main priority in a shoe, you won't find better than the Diadem Court Burst. It's my top pick because it also scores 9/10 or higher on stability and speed, which I'd argue are the next most important factors. While durability isn't the highest, the performance more than makes up for that and justifies the price point.

If your budget is around the $100 mark, the K-Swiss Express Lights offer the highest performance for money.
They're the best budget choice as they perform similarly to $150 shoes from Diadem and Babolat but cost $40 cheaper, sometimes even more with recurring discounts. At $104.95 (or $94.45 with our exclusive discount at Pickleball Central), they are excellent value for money.

Who it suits

These are for anyone who wants a pickleball-specific shoe and to save a little money against other top brands. If you're considering a cheaper shoe on Amazon in the $50 range, I'd recommend spending that extra bit for the K-Swiss Express Lights if you can. Your feet will thank you in the long run.
If you have wide feet, though, you can get the FitVille Wide shoes on this list for just $69.99.
Watch my initial thoughts on the K-Swiss Express Lights:

Loading...

Features

This shoe's high-density rubber outsoles are super durable and feature additional drag guards for long-lasting wear. The midsole benefits from a support chassis and EVA foam, which cushions and improves responsiveness underfoot. This extra cushioning adds bounce to get you off the mark quicker.
The lightweight, supportive feel of these shoes also makes it easier to achieve quick changes of direction. I'm always skeptical of anything marketed as "pickleball specific", but I find these quite responsive to the fast, short movements required in pickleball.

Design and feel

I dig the style. My pair is a neutral color that will appeal to a wide variety of people, especially if you don't want anything too bright (like a lot of styles with the Babolat Jet Mach 3). If you do want something flashy, they come in louder color schemes too.
These are extremely comfortable too. They fit true to size (I'm a 9.5 US men's). I feel no tightness or ankle rubbing—nothing to cause discomfort during long hours on the court. The breathable material works as advertised because my feet always stay dry and comfortable.

Performance

The reviews on Amazon don't lie—these play great. They are designed for pickleball and for short lateral and up/down movements. I can confirm they work well for that. They are light and responsive and I can play the fast game I like to play. I feel like I can easily run up and field short balls.
What's most surprising for a value pick is their solid durability. The soles look brand-new after 10 hours of testing and I can't say that about many court shoes (including the Diadem Court Burst).

Value for money

I tested these alongside the Avia Avi-Verge, a $50 court shoe on Amazon, hoping I could find a true budget choice under the $100 price point. However, the K-Swiss's performance is so much higher that I can't recommend the Avia. The K-Swiss is the clear winner for the best cheap pickleball shoe.
That said, I don't think of these as "cheap". They made a case for best overall or best outdoor shoes and rivaled $150 options, so I think they're incredible value at the $95-105 price point.
star icon
My verdict
These shoes offer awesome value for money. They're comfortable and extremely durable for the price. If you want a fast high-performance shoe designed specifically for pickleball, this is the best $95 you can spend.

If you're tired of spending over $100 on court shoes only to have them wear out after a month or two, check out the Babolat Jet Mach 3s. They're the most durable pickleball shoe I tested this year.
Designed for outdoor tennis courts, they have great support, fit well, and look good. Best of all, they're made from top tech to absorb shocks and prevent ankle rolling.
It's hard to find fault with these shoes—they've been my #1 for years. While the Diadem Court Bursts took the top spot this year for being the most comfortable shoes I've tried, the Babolat Jet Mach 3s win when it comes to outdoor play.
I can play 3-4 hour sessions with these and never notice pain or even tightness in my feet. At the same time, they're very durable on outdoor courts.

Who it suits

If you're ready to invest in solid court shoes, especially if you play a lot of games outdoors, give these a look. Even though they were designed for tennis, they're the most popular shoe with pickleball pros. They're not just for pros—I think any competitive player will find value in these, even beginners.
Watch my first thoughts on the Babolat Jet Mach 3s:

Loading...

Features

This is one example where a company can bring decades of experience in tennis over to pickleball. This is a super-performant and durable shoe for pickleheads. They're lightweight (lighter than the Diadem Court Burst), yet somehow offer 10/10 stability.
I'm putting this down to the high-strength fibers in the upper and Michelin rubber with added thickness in the outsole. The midsole has great cushioning and a heel rocker feature to allow your foot more movement, preventing injuries like ankle rolls.
special offer

Try the Babolat Jet Mach 3 & see why they're the best for outdoors

Design and feel

I like a little more color in my shoes, so I picked up the American-themed red, white, and blue, which I really dig. They fit true to size.
They feel great too—lightweight and breathable, and they're comfortable. Not as comfortable as the 9/10 Diadem Court Bursts, but not too far off at 8/10. The built-in shock absorption works well. I can go over 3 hours of intense play and never notice pain or even tightness in my feet.

Performance

The Jet Mach 3s have great support, especially on lateral movements. They were designed for tennis but many of the same movements apply to pickleball.
They're highly durable, especially the Michelin rubber soles. You can feel the quality difference and my soles look brand-new after over 15 hours of testing. I tend to slide a lot, and while that motion took a toll on the Diadem Court Bursts, it has caused very little wear to these.
What's great is that they're lightweight too, so you can play a fast game while still feeling really supported. This removes any worry about reining in your play for injuries.

Value for money

The premium price point of $150 puts these right next to the Diadem Court Burst. However, when you consider the durability and performance, I'd say they're well worth the investment. If you're logging hours of intense outdoor play, these are designed for you.
star icon
My verdict
If you need a durable shoe that can withstand months of heavy outdoor play, this is my recommendation to you. They're not just durable either—they are very stable and fast on the court, a close runner-up to the Diadem Court Burst. They're the top choice for pro players, which says a lot. Unlike paddles, pros aren't sponsored by shoe companies so this reflects the true quality, and I back that after my own testing.

If you play a lot indoors, especially in gymnasiums, the HEAD Motion Pros are the best option because of how well they grip the surface and avoid marks. Shoes like these are hard to find, but HEAD has really impressed me with how well these perform.
The "Hybrasion+" technology grips the surface to prevent falling on indoor surfaces, protecting you from injuries. It also prevents marks on the floor, which could get you in trouble at your indoor facility.

Who it suits

If you play on indoor basketball courts or gym flooring, these shoes are for you. The Hybrasion+ tech provides extra tread all around the outsole, improving your grip when turning from side to side.
These aren't just for indoor use, though, as they're technically all-court shoes. If you're looking for plenty of grip on outdoor courts, check these out—especially if you prefer a slightly wider shoe but not a fully wide one like the FitVille.

Features

The Hybrasion+ outsole is the feature behind the great grip. It has a 360º gripping pattern, so your feet feel secure whichever way you turn. There's also a rubber toe cap for added durability.
There's EVA foam for lightweight cushioning in the middle, and a breathable and moisture-wicking mesh and sock liner on the upper too.

Design and feel

The HEAD Motion Pros only come in one color (white, red, and black). So, if you like a lot of color choices, try the ASICS Gel-Resolution 9s instead. However, while there's not a lot of variety in color, I do like the look of these. If you can have just one style, it's not a bad option by any means.
They fit mostly true to size, with a slightly wider midsole that's less tight and more roomy. They feel good in play, especially the support and stability they give me on indoor courts.

Performance

While these aren't quite as comfortable as the Diadems or as quick as the Babolats, the Motion Pros excel on stability. They really boost my performance on indoor courts because the grip tech is so good.
I can move quickly and confidently, making up for any lack of a lightweight feeling. This means you can still play a fast game with them.

Value for money

At $129, these are fairly priced for HEAD's first pickleball-specific shoe. They're placed right between the $100 K-Swiss Express Light and ASICS Gel-Challenger 13 on one side, and the $150 Diadem Court Burst and Babolat Jet Mach 3s on the other.
star icon
My verdict
HEAD Motion Pros were designed specifically for gripping indoor floors and not leaving marks. If you play on gym floors, you'll love the movement they give you. They're stable and breathable, with built-in cooling tech. If you're looking for shoes designed for pickleball players, these are a well-priced option at $129.99.

If you need arch support, ASICS' Gel-Resolution 9 shoes have all the stability and comfort you need to get out on the court. They're great for arch support because they have advanced tech like the DYNAWALL™ midsole that extends into the heel to give you more stability on lateral movements.
The extra support all over the shoe is softened by a gel construction that makes these soft on landings and super comfortable. At $150, they're at the higher end of the price range but they're well-designed and built for players who need support as well as comfort.

Who it suits

The ASICS Gel-Resolution 9s suit players who need arch support because they offer a great blend of stability and cushioned comfort. They don't have the stiff feel of the Challenger 13s, yet they're loaded up with supportive tech. They're suitable for both indoor and outdoor courts too.
special offer

Features

The gel technology that ASICS uses in the rearfoot and forefoot increases impact absorption, helping your arches by softening your landings. There's lots more stability-improving tech throughout these shoes too.
The toes and heels are protected by guards, the upper is flexible, and the rubber outsole is really durable.

Design and feel

These designs are flashier than on the Challenger-13s. If you like to stand out on the courts, you'll like some of the choices like the vibrant sapphire. If you prefer more muted colors, there's always the classic white & black option.
After testing the stiff Challengers, I expected the Resolutions to feel similar, but these are way more comfortable. I like how cushioned they are on landings, and this is down to the gel tech. Not only do I feel supported, but I feel like I can move fast too.

Performance

I'm a big fan of these shoes. They're almost up there with the Babolat Jet Mach 3s and the Diadem Court Burst. They're way more comfortable than the ASICS Gel-Challenger 13 while still offering plenty of support.
I wanted to include them on my list as they're great for anyone who needs extra support around the arches.

Value for money

At $150, these are the same price as the Diadem Court Burst and Babolat Jet Mach 3. If you don't need the extra support, you'll find better overall value from the other two. If your arches are a concern, though, this is $150 well spent.
star icon
My verdict
No other shoe that I've tested offers arch support like the ASICS Gel-Resolution 9s. The gel tech really works, giving you support when landing from a jumping volley or smash. These come with a $150 price tag, but the arch support and great durability make them well worth the investment.

If you need extra ankle support in your shoes, the ASICS Gel-Challenger 13s are my pick for you—they're built for tennis players covering the baseline. That kind of side-to-side movement can put a strain on your ankles.
ASICS clearly put a lot of R&D into the design here, with a particular focus on reinforcing the upper to keep your foot locked in place. They're also a great price at just $100.

Who it suits

These are for anyone who wants extra ankle protection. If you want an affordable shoe that's well-built and supportive all over, they're also for you. ASICS has a ton of experience making running and tennis shoes, and they've brought that over to pickleball with these.
Be aware that these shoes are very supportive and quite stiff as a result. So, if you prioritize comfort, I'd recommend either the Diadem Court Burst or the super comfy, budget FitVilles (for a wide fit).

Features

The WINGWALL™ tech in the sidewall is what bolsters the ankle support. The whole upper is also reinforced for support all over your foot. There's a toe protector and a high-abrasion rubber outsole for durability and grip.
Comfort is provided by the shock-absorbing cushioning system, while the sock liner works to wick moisture away from your foot.

Design and feel

I've always liked ASICS shoes. Their style is a nostalgic throwback to the 90s. The Gel-Challenger 13s look great for a $100 shoe. They're a bit more toned-down than the ASICS Gel-Resolution 9s, but there are plenty of colors to choose from, so everyone should find something they like.
Just be aware that these have a narrow fit and quite a stiff feel, especially compared to the Diadem Court Bursts. If you want a slightly wider shoe, check out the HEAD Motion Pro instead. For a proper wide shoe, see the FitVilles.

Comfort is my top priority on the courts, so these shoes aren't for me personally. That said, I don't suffer from ankle injuries. People who do struggle with this recommend these shoes highly. There's a reason behind the stiffness as well—it's all the padding and reinforcement built into the shoe.
If you want to feel fully protected around your ankles, you'll get your confidence back with these. The sidewalls and upper stability lock your foot in place and allow you to hit the court hard.
With all that protective tech, speed is lacking somewhat. So, if you want a faster shoe, try the Diadem Court Burst or Babolat Jet Mach 3.

Value for money

I can't knock this for value—$100 for a top-brand court shoe designed specifically for protecting your feet. If you need support around the ankles, you won't regret this investment.

My verdict
The ASICS Gel-Challenger 13s aren't for everyone but if ankle support is your priority, I don't think you'll mind the stiff feel and lack of comfort. The tradeoff is a ton of protection all over your foot—especially around your ankles. With this protection, you can move laterally on the court without worry of injury.

If you need a pair of wide shoes, these shoes from FitVille are designed for you, available in extra-wide sizes up to 4E. Their width isn't their only appeal either—they're really comfortable and have built-in arch support.
While they won't last as long as a $120-150 shoe, they're very well built for their $70 price point.

Who it suits

These are for all the players who've wanted a wider pickleball shoe. If your current court shoes are too narrow and uncomfortable, check these out—especially if you also need additional arch support.

Features

These come in two widths: 2E (wide) and 4E (extra-wide). They have high insteps and Ortholite® insoles with a supportive heel cup and arch design. The mesh upper aims to wick moisture away from your feet.
For stability, you've got a treaded rubber sole and a TPU heel ring.

Design and feel

You can tell that a lot of work went into the design. They're not just clunky shoes for wide feet or just another cheap Amazon offering like many in this price range. They're stylish and well-built, with three simple color choices—nothing too flashy or tacky.
They feel really good too. I don't have wide feet but I can tell these will feel snug. They're well-cushioned, stable, and comfortable.

Performance

Lots of players who suffered from foot pain with other shoes say that these fixed their issues. Comfort is the main attribute, and I can tell these are some of the most comfortable court shoes you'll find.
They're stable on lateral movements too. While the arch support isn't as impressive as on the $150 ASICS Gel-Resolution 9s, it works well here.

Value for money

I was skeptical at first that this would be yet another cheap Amazon shoe, but I'm impressed by the high quality here. They're only $69.99 but they provide a big solution to players with wide feet while also supporting your arches and relieving foot pain.

How to choose the best pickleball shoes

The shoes you wear are vital to your comfort and performance on the pickleball court. That's why I took careful consideration when choosing my top picks.

I always aim to give my readers a range of choices and it's no different with court shoes. Some players need more arch support, while some want ankle support. At the same time, I don't just choose a shoe for the sake of it. Each pair has earned its place here, and I never recommend one unless it's of value.

Here's what I take into account when judging a shoe:

  • Comfort: when you're running around for hours, your feet need to be snug without overheating, and correctly protected from sore spots in high-impact areas.
  • Support: great pickleball shoes must be flexible enough to allow your foot to bend naturally while having enough rigidity to prevent it from twisting and the ankle from rolling.
  • Performance: I wanted to include shoes that enhance your performance on the courts. That's why I chose shoes with features that make you accelerate and stop quicker while maintaining great grip on the ground.
  • Durability: pickleball shoes get a hammering in day-to-day court life. Clever additions like toe and heel guards add to the lifespan of your shoe to keep you playing better for longer.
  • Price: finally, I tried to find shoes that offered the best value for money.

Pickleball shoes vs tennis shoes

In this list, you'll notice there are many tennis shoes. That's because, like in pickleball, tennis shoes need to provide good grip and stability on court surfaces.

However, I have included one pickleball-specific shoe on this list: the K-Swiss Express Light Pickleball Shoe. So, what's the difference between pickleball shoes and tennis shoes?

Similarities

  • Pickleball and tennis shoes must have a sturdy and gripping outsole (preferably rubber). They also need to be reliable for swiveling, changing directions, and stopping quickly on various court surfaces.
  • A good heel cup is important in both shoe types to keep your ankle stable, especially when making lateral movements.
  • Both shoes require plenty of midsole bounce and support to keep you moving quickly and comfortably throughout your game without injuring your joints.

Differences

  • Pickleball shoes often have a tread pattern specific to the sport, which helps to provide a better grip on slippery pickleball courts. Tennis shoes may also have this feature, but it's not as common.
  • Pickleball shoes are extra wide and more spacious than tennis shoes to allow for better movement and comfort when playing the game.
  • Tennis shoes often have a more stiff upper construction, while pickleball shoes often have a more flexible and breathable upper.

Despite their differences, there's a lot of crossover between the two. So, if you're not sure which to go with, it's perfectly fine to choose a tennis shoe that's designed for multiple sports. My top pick, the Diadem Court Burst, is designed for tennis and pickleball.

Just make sure that the shoe has a good grip and stability on court surfaces, and that it fits well. The general rule for tennis shoes is 45 to 60 hours of play. It's important to note that the lifespan of your shoes will also depend on how well you take care of them.

Bottom line

That's my breakdown of the top pickleball shoes in 2024. To recap, here are my top 3:

  1. Diadem Court Burst - best overall
  2. K-Swiss Express Light - best cheap
  3. Babolat Jet Mach 3 - best for outdoors

The Diadem Court Burst is my top choice this year as it's simply the most comfortable shoe I've ever worn on a pickleball court. These are my new day-to-day pickleball shoes, despite some slight reservations about their durability. Luckily, the K-Swiss and Babolat shoes are super durable for anyone who's more concerned about that.

Recent updates

August 2024

I've done a complete revamp of the best pickleball shoes in 2024, this time with a much more concise list. The top spot this year goes to the Diadem Court Bursts, taking the top spot from the Babolat Jet Mach 3.

I've also introduced a couple of new categories, including the "best for ankle support" and "best for wide feet".
